Friend of the school and one of my mentors, Jim Emmons, has written two really provocative pieces detailing issues with bouting, how he (and HDA) train, and what he refers to as “the logic of the sharp point” (HDA students will recognize this as Rule #1 – Don’t Get Hit)

Part 1 deals mostly with the idea of cutting with a rapier. While it can be done it was not, contrary to most available YouTube footage and tutorials, the primary method of attacking with that weapon.

Part 2 delves more into the idea of the logic of the sharp point and how to approach training and bouting.
